ESPO congratulates Port of Algeciras for achieving PERS certification

10 November 2016

ESPO is delighted to congratulate the port of Algeciras (Spain) for achieving PERS certification. ESPO Secretary General, Isabelle Ryckbost, and ESPO Chairman, Eamonn O’Reilly, handed over the PERS certificate to the General Manager of the port, Mr. Jose Luis Hormaechea, during ESPO General Assembly, which took place on 9 November in Brussels.

The port of Algeciras joined the EcoPorts network in 2015 and achieves PERS certification for the first time. “We warmly welcome the port of Algeciras in the distinguished network of PERS certified ports”, said Antonis Michail, EcoPorts coordinator.

PERS is the only port sector specific environmental management standard. It is the flagship product of the EcoPorts network and is offered as part of the ESPO services to its members through the EcoPorts website (www.ecoports.com). Compliance with the PERS standard is independently assessed by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance and the certificate has a validity of 2 years. There are 25 ports in Europe and its neighboring countries currently certified by PERS. ESPO encourages all ports within its membership to implement the scheme and to get certified.”
