Press Release

The ESPO conference in Livorno (23-24 May) is approaching fast: are you ready to join us?

30 April 2019

In less than one month, the European port industry is gathering in Livorno for the 16th edition of the The theme of this year’s edition is: “Europe’s ports in a new world”.

The world is changing radically and quickly: climate change, digitalisation, automation, geopolitical crises, looming trade wars and increased citizens’ engagement are among the main game changers. Ports and port stakeholders have to prepare for the new world. But how to prepare for a reality that can change overnight? How to remain agile and resilient in an industry that is used to think in the long term?

The ESPO conference aims to be a two-day reflection on the main challenges and game changers ports and the wider port industry are facing today. In five subsequent sessions, speakers and audience will be exploring different upcoming game changers in more detail and try to find answers to different questions: How to define the new port and shipping world? What will be the new technologies? Who are the new players? How to prepare for a new trade and geopolitical environment? Will we be soon EU27 or remain EU28? What is the future of work in the port sector? And what can be expected from the new port? What does a port need in order to play its new role?

Since the conference is taking place when 500 million citizens will be casting their votes for the new European Parliament, it is also an ideal moment to discuss the European policy for the five years to come. What should we expect from the new Commission and Parliament?

As always, the ESPO conference seeks to combine high-level speakers and experts with different discussion moments and interactions with the audience.

To discuss the new world and its impact on ports, we have chosen the beautiful 19th-century Goldoni theatre, which has a unique open rooftop.  For the Conference Dinner, our hosts are taking us to an old medieval Fortress in the middle of the port, where we will have the chance to enjoy the Livornese cuisine.

Honestly, don’t you think we are heading towards a unique edition of ESPO’s annual conference?

Do not hesitate longer and book now your seat in the Goldoni theatre and be part of this annual highlight for the European port and maritime industry!
