Klaipėda Port starts infrastructure installation to provide electricity for vessels

21 February 2025

Klaipėda Port is starting to electrify its quays to provide onshore power supply (OPS) to vessels, which will reduce emissions and noise. The first roll-on/roll-off ferries will be powered by electricity by 2026.

Three stations will be installed at the Central Terminal and one at the Container Terminal, with construction set to finish by May 2025. The project, valued at EUR 11 million and partly funded by the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), will source electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar. The entire electrification plan, including for container vessels and cruise ships, is expected to be completed by 2028.
