Onshore Power Supply in the ports of Antwerp, Bremen, Hamburg, HAROPA and Rotterdam

22 October 2021

The ports of Antwerp, Bremen, Hamburg, HAROPA and Rotterdam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 21 June 2021 to facilitation the implementation of Onshore Power Supply (OPS). With this new agreement, these North European ports want to pave the way towards zero-emission shipping and send a strong message of fair competition, clean shipping, and clean supply chains.

The main points of the MoU concern a clear regulatory framework for the use of shore power (or equivalent alternative), an equivalent valuation of fuels, and sufficient availability of public funds to implement these projects. With this MoU the ports hope to set an example for other ports, terminals and shipping segments to follow.
