Ports of Stockholm launches innovative onshore power supply (OPS) and microgrid project
13 February 2025
Ports of Stockholm, in partnership with the University of Skövde, Stella Futura, and Ilmatar, has launched the Innovative Microgrid Design for Sustainable Onshore Power Supply (OPS) project. Starting from 2024 and running up to 2027, the initiative will demonstrate a cutting-edge microgrid system at the Port of Kapellskär as part of the port's long-term sustainability strategy.
This project aims to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency and increase the port capacity to meet growing energy demands.
The microgrid solution integrates solar cell systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and an advanced energy management system (EMS). By addressing challenges like grid limitations and rising energy loads, the project will ensure reliable power supply, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance port resilience against disruptions.
