ESPO Position on the draft ITRE report on a European strategy for critical raw materials

28 June 2021

The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) welcomes the recently published draft report of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on a European strategy for critical raw materials (2021/2011(INI)). At the same time, European ports want to highlight a number of priorities, including the ports’ role as hub for critical raw materials (CRM), the need for adequate CRM flows to Europe as well as robust and resilient CRM supply chains, and the fact that ports can be ideal locations to store strategic stocks of CRM’s and other essential goods. European ports also believe that the EU should not only focus on CRM’s, but should also pay close attention to a broader group of primary and secondary resources, as there is an increasing scarcity of several key resources.
