2024 has been marked by elections both in Europe and in the US, leading to new leaders and political priorities. Since the start of this year, the geopolitical tensions have further escalated and multilateralism is under pressure, shaking up the world order and paving the way for a new geopolitical and geo-economic normal. To navigate these shifts, the EU needs to prepare for its own future, secure its own position and foster new alliances.
While the European Union continues to strive to become net-zero by the middle of this century, it is now also setting its compass towards a more competitive, secure and geoeconomically and geopolitically stronger Europe.
Europe’s ports are at the centre of today’s challenges and are, at the same time, instrumental in facing them. How can ports prepare to ride the wave of change? What can Europe do to support ports in their endeavors?
The ESPO Conference 2025 will be the ideal moment to reflect among ports, port stakeholders, policymakers and experts on how ports can and must adjust to the new world. Who will prepare the script for ports? Can the ports still be masters of their own plan? What role can policy play in enhancing the competitiveness of Europe’s ports? Do we need to look in a different way to the ports’ value creation? What can the role of ports be in assisting Europe to stepping up its strength in the new world order?
Many high-level speakers and EU policymakers, including Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, have already lined up for this 21st edition of the ESPO Conference. They will help participants analyse the economic, energy and geopolitical landscape in which Europe’s ports operate and will share their views on the future. We will explore new alliances and partnerships. At the end of day one, during our breakout sessions, participants will discuss different topics in smaller groups.
But as the world changes overnight, so does our conference programme. So, keep an eye on our conference website and see which topics and speakers have been added.
As always, ESPO Conferences do not end with the last speech. This year, we also foresee plenty of networking moments, including an unforgettable evening offered by our host, the Port of Thessaloniki, who invites you to an exquisite dinner at the Avenue Restaurant, offering Mediterranean flavors, signature cocktails, and breathtaking views of Thermaikos Gulf in a beautiful waterfront setting.
It’s time to make your plans! Register now, book your hotel, and get ready to be part of this incredible conference in Thessaloniki.
