ESPO is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor in the field of Energy

Europe’s seaports are at the crossroad of supply chains: they cluster transport, energy, industry, and blue and circular economy. European ports and their managing bodies are at the service of the European economy and society. They have a strategic role in responding to today’s main challenges of decarbonisation, digitalisation and resilience.

The European Sea Ports Organisation is the voice of Europe’s ports towards the EU policy makers. ESPO represents the port authorities, port associations and port administrations of the seap+orts of 22 Member States of the European Union including Norway. ESPO also has observer members in Albania, Iceland, Israel, Montenegro, Ukraine and United Kingdom.

They are a partner in the energy transition and are instrumental in ensuring Europe’s energy security. Given this important role, the European Sea Ports Organisation is looking for a:

Senior Policy Advisor in the field of Energy

The position entails the analysis and assessment of the importance of EU policy initiatives in the fields of Energy. Responsibilities include intelligence gathering, preparation of ESPO policy positions and lobby actions, coordination of the relevant ESPO technical committee and represent the organisation at relevant EU meetings as well as liaising with other energy stakeholders and their respective organisations.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Combine a good background and experience in the energy field with a profound interest in diving into the world of ports;
  • Be familiar with the EU Brussels energy policy network and the energy stakeholders;
  • Be eager to become a port passionate;
  • Be accustomed to the functioning of the European institutions and have a good insight in EU policy making processes, in particular in the field of energy;
  • Be a positive person, strong networker and communicator with the ability to translate complex technical and legal issues in easy-to-understand language;
  • Be able to work independently, well-organised and cope with multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Be flexible and happy to work in a small team;
  • Be ready to travel on a regular basis;
  • Have an outstanding command of the English language, both written and spoken; being fluent in different other EU languages is considered an asset.
