GreenPort Congress to Focus on the Themes of the ESPO Green Guide

19 July 2013

This year, the 8th GreenPort Congress is taking place from 9 till 11 October in Antwerp. Delegates are invited to register online before 31 July to enjoy the early bird rate.

The Congress will encourage greater participation and discussion throughout the two days of the event, following the themes of the ESPO Green Guide: Exemplify, Enable, Engage, Encourage and Enforce. This year’s programme will focus on: “Air quality management in ports”, “Waste and material management in port areas”, “Managing the direct impact to the local community” and “Environmental reporting and communication”. The emphasis will be on highlighting innovation in equipment and technology whilst illustrating practical solutions through case studies.

According to the “5 E theory” presented in the Green Guide, port authorities can trigger environmental breakthroughs within their port areas by exemplifying, encouraging, enabling, engaging and enforcing. The Green Guide further argues that, notwithstanding the different port managing models throughout the European Union, every European port authority is able in some way to show environmental leadership.

The Congress will provide decision makers with a meeting place to both learn about and discuss the latest in sustainable environmental practice. Environmental managers, planners, harbour masters, logistics managers, energy managers, sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility executives from ports, terminal operators, shipping lines, shippers, logistics companies and other industry stakeholders, will all come together to learn, discuss, debate and network at the two day Congress and its associated social events. These include an evening Welcome Reception on 8 October 2013, the Gala Dinner on 9 October 2013 and a Tour of Antwerp Port on 11 October 2013, all of which are included in the delegate fee.

Registrations for the Congress are open with an early bird rate, which is available until 31 July and saves 20%. After this, ESPO members get a 10% discount and members of the ESPO Sustainable Development Committee and of EcoPorts will receive a discount of 40%.
