In Memoriam: Giuliano Gallanti (1939 – 2020)

28 January 2020

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of ESPO’s former Chairman Giuliano Gallanti on 8 January.

Giuliano Gallanti (1939 - 2020)

Giuliano Gallanti retired in 2017 as President of the Port of Livorno after a long-standing experience in the port sector. Previously, Mr. Gallanti was President of the Port of Genoa from 1996 to 2004 and had also different high-level functions in Italy.

Giuliano was chairman of ESPO from 2004 until 2008 and remained afterwards very active in ESPO’s Executive Committee.

“Giuliano was one of the founding fathers of ESPO. His commitment to the European vision was matched by his dedication to his home port-city of Genoa. Giuliano argued his case with equal passion for his port, his country and for Europe and his legacy can be seen in the unity of purpose and approach across ports throughout Europe. He will be greatly missed within the ESPO family. Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues and his friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.” Eamonn O’Reilly, ESPO’s Chairman.
