Port of Barcelona: Comprehensive Electrification

06 May 2021

As part of its ambitious emissions reduction strategy, the Port of Barcelona approved an OPS project consisting of the electrification of its main piers and docks for cruise ships, container ships, ferries and car carriers. The project will be developed in a period of seven to ten years and will begin with the connection to the high-voltage network in order to have a peak electrical power of more than 70 MW. From the substation, a new, exclusive 25 kV electrical network will be created to service ships moored at the docks. The project is expected to reduce 50% of NOx emissions and 25% of PM-10 in the port by 2030 compared to estimated emissions in 2017.
