Comprehensive Electrification of the Port of Marseille Fos

06 May 2021

In 2019, the Port of Marseille Fos approved a new investment of €20 million dedicated to the OPS facilities at the port (Connexion Electrique des Navires A Quai, CENAQ) for maritime passenger transport. The port had already installed 3 OPS facilities for the ferries serving Corsica. The objective of the Port is to expand the implementation of CENAQ to other regular international passenger transport lines, to ship repair, to the cruise ships calling at Marseille and to the container docks at Fos. Similarly, the port is actively looking at other alternative fuel carriers, for example local production of electricity through photovoltaic roofs. This way, the Port will be able to ensure emissions reductions from well to wake, as the photovoltaic energy would be used to power vessels.
