Hydrogen-powered boat tested in the port of Rotterdam

22 October 2021

Delft University of Technology designed a hydrogen-powered racing boat in the course of single year. Their project is now being tested in the port of Rotterdam. The boat’s propulsion works entirely on hydrogen, but the vessel is also equipped with hydrofoils that lift the hull out of the water, making the impression that the boat is hovering over the water.

The Port of Rotterdam aims to become a leading hydrogen hub and therefore centres around innovations and practical applications for this fuel. For this reason, the Port was a sponsor of the project, which shows how hydrogen can be used as a sustainable fuel for racing boats.
