New sustainable cruise terminal opens at Port of Tallinn

22 October 2021

The Port of Tallinn opened a brand new cruise terminal for the 2021 cruise season. In line with the Port’s aims to be a front runner in sustainable terminals and to improve the environmental footprint of its activities, the new modern, multifunctional terminal has been built with a view to reducing its negative impact on the environment. The environmental sustainability of the new terminal was a key priority during its construction. Solar panels have been installed on the facility to provide energy, while heating will be provided through sea power using a heat pump. The terminal will also be used outside the cruise season for events, concerts, and conferences.

A new promenade has also been developed to connect tourists with the city centre of Tallinn. This news “culture kilometre” links the port area to numerous leisure areas, allowing tourists to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site in the Old town and to access restaurants along the seafront in an easier way. Three new attractions will be accessible to visitors, including the Patarei Sea Fortress, a historical fortification site, the Seaplane Harbour, a naval museum, and Noblessner, a popular seaside cultural area.
