Onshore power for container ships at the Port of Hamburg
The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) will have the first shore power systems for container ships that will supply container ships with green electricity during their berthing time at the Burchardkai and Tollerort terminals in an initial test phase. This will start in 2023. Each of the terminals will be equipped with an extraction point from the public grid, a converter station and the respective ship connection systems at the quay wall.
The project is being funded through the Administrative Agreement for the Construction of Shore Power Facilities, under which the German federal government will provide financial assistance to the federal states for the construction of shore power facilities in sea and inland ports until 2023.
