Port of Almeria advances toward zero carbon footprint with new solar installations

11 December 2024

The Port Authority of Almería is progressing towards its goal of achieving a zero-carbon footprint in direct energy consumption. After recently commissioning a project for a 1-megawatt (MW) self-consumption photovoltaic installation at the Ribera I Dock parking area, it has started the process in 2024 for a 660 kilowatts (kW) solar installation at Ribera II Dock. This new plant will be installed on the roofs of the passenger waiting areas, replacing the existing structures.

The construction of the new solar plant at the Ribera II Dock will take five months and is part of the APA's port authority’s 2024-2030 Strategic Sustainability Plan, which focuses on using renewable energy. By 2025, the Port of Almería aims to have around 2 hectares of shaded areas for passengers powered by renewable energy, enhancing sustainability.
