Port of Barcelona to invest in new onshore power system
12 June 2022
The Port of Barcelona recently adopted the Nexigen project to decarbonise port activity and improve air quality through the implementation of a new onshore power supply system connecting ships to electricity at docking spaces. €110 million will be invested by the port to complete this project.
The objective is to have
electrified all the cruise berths, wharfs and the ferry terminals of the Sant
Bertran dock by 2030. This would help to drastically reduce the port’s CO2 and
NOx emissions. The electrification of the docks is a key element in becoming
climate-neutral by 2050.
