Port of Felixstowe receives latest delivery of automated electric cranes
11 December 2024
The Port of Felixstowe has received five new remote-controlled electric cranes, which are part of a 17-crane order aimed at modernising equipment and reducing carbon emissions. These cranes are part of the port's effort to achieve net-zero emissions for its scopes 1 and 2 by 2035 and to phase out all diesel equipment. These cranes, capable of lifting containers 1-over-6 high and spanning seven rows, will initially operate in semi-autonomous mode to enhance port efficiency and are set to be commissioned at berths 8 and 9.
This combination of automation and electrification will improve the efficiency and reliability of port operations, which is essential for handling the world’s largest container ships.
