Ports of Antwerp and Montreal to create green shipping corridor

24 January 2022

The Port of Antwerp and the Port of Montreal signed a cooperation agreement at the COP26 to see the creation of the first green shipping corridor in the North Atlantic. The Port of Antwerp is one of the largest bunkering ports in the world, and the Port of Montreal is well located for the distribution and export of renewable fuels to international markets. The two ports, together with their partners in the public and private sectors, agreed to look into the development of solutions and infrastructures to facilitate green fuels trade and the supply of renewable fuels and clean technologies to vessels. In addition, the ports also aim to create new economic opportunities through this agreement. This new agreement takes further the already ongoing partnership between the two ports that started in 2013.
