The Port of Algeciras invests in an underwater noise monitoring system and cetacean tracking
02 January 2025
The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), recognises environmental challenges like biodiversity loss, invasive species, and water quality decline. Therefore, it has initiated the "Preserve the marine ecosystem and biodiversity" challenge. This initiative aims to find and implement innovative solutions to protect biodiversity, maintain water quality, and mitigate the impact of human activities.
Furthermore, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) is investing in a pilot project called ‘Underwater noise monitoring system and cetacean tracking’. This project involves a digital platform to regularly monitor underwater noise from port activities and assess its impact on marine life, both during and after construction. The aim of these projects is to improve the conservation of marine biodiversity in the waters of the Bay of Algeciras and reduce the impact of port and maritime activity on the marine environment.
