The Port of Bilbao will start with onshore power supply (OPS)

12 March 2024

The Port Authority of Bilbao has awarded Tecuni S.A.U. the first phase for the drafting of the construction project and the execution of the works for a new electrical infrastructure in the A-5 Dock of the Central Dock of the Port to connect ships to onshore power supply (OPS).

The A-5 quay will be equipped with four connection points via two 2.5 megavolt ampere OPS units, which will allow the berthed vessels to connect to the port facility's power grid and thus be able to disconnect their auxiliary generators. The electrification of wharves by deploying OPS technology is part of BilbOPS strategic investment project, with 11 connection point. Along these lines, the port of Bilbao is also working on other energy-related projects, such as photovoltaic power plants.
