The position of the European Sea Ports Organisation on the draft Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF) proposal

The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) appreciates the opportunity to participate in the consultation on the draft Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF).
ESPO represents the European sea ports which are nodes of industry, energy, circular economy and play a crucial role in the energy transition and decarbonisation of industry and society as a whole. Many projects that will be or are being realised relating to decarbonisation or the energy transition are happening within a port area or require use of port infrastructure.
This is the reason why ESPO feels it’s important to actively contribute to this consultation on behalf of its members.
ESPO stresses CISAF’s potential to play a key role in enhancing the energy transition of the port sector and the activities within the port area, and appreciate its focus on decarbonization, renewable energy deployment, and support for clean industry.
However, it is crucial to recognize ports as key infrastructure in the energy transition and in the realisation of the Clean Industrial Deal. Therefore, it needs to be ensured that state aid mechanisms can support them in playing their strategic role.
