Ports Achieve High Environmental Recognition

On 12 July, ESPO awarded the Port Authority of Vigo with a Ports Environmental Review System (PERS) certification.
The Port Authority of Vigo received the recognition for its environmental management programme, during the closing session of the Green Energy Ports Conference, which was held in Vigo. Furthermore, on 13 June, ESPO awarded the Port of Shoreham with a PERS certificate during the British Ports Association (BPA) environmental meeting, held at the port of Tyne. Earlier this year, the ports of Lorient, Valencia, Igoumenitsa and Dublin also achieved PERS certification.
The Port Environmental Review System (PERS) is the only port sector specific environmental management standard. PERS is the flagship product of the EcoPorts network and is offered as part of the ESPO services to its members. PERS is independently audited and certified by Lloyd’s Register. The PERS certificate has a two years validity and currently 18 European ports hold a valid certificate. ESPO is delighted on the increased interest shown to PERS by European port authorities and encourages more ports within its membership to implement the scheme and to get certified.
