Esbjerg Declaration on offshore wind and green hydrogen

27 September 2022

On 18 May 2022, the Port of Esbjerg hosted the signing of the Declaration of Energy Ministers on the North Sea as a Green Power Plant of Europe, commonly referred to as the Esbjerg Declaration. As part of the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC), the governments of Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands pledged to increasingly replace fossil fuels, including Russian oil, coal and gas, with European renewable energy from the North Sea, including offshore wind and green hydrogen.

They set combined targets for offshore wind of at least 65 GW by 2030 and aim at doubling their total 2030-capacity of offshore wind to at least 150 GW by 2050. As regards the production of green hydrogen, the combined targets are of about 20 GW of production capacity by 2030.
