Norwegian ports part of initiative for zero emission ship by 2030
03 April 2023
The Norwegian Maritime Authority and
the Port of Bergen joined Hurtigruten Norway’s "Sea Zero" project
with ten maritime partners. With €7 million public funding and a €13 million
budget, this initiative focuses on developing energy-efficient, sustainable
cruise ships by 2030. The project aims to pioneer innovative solutions in
energy efficiency, battery tech, propulsion, hull design, and hotel operations
to minimise energy consumption. The research phase, from 2023 to 2025, will
lead into constructing new ships aiming for zero emissions to sea and air,
emphasizing energy efficiency as a game-changer. The project anticipates
influencing the global market with green technologies, potentially creating
hundreds of millions in value by 2030, revolutionising passenger transport
sustainably.
