Port of Cuxhaven constructs offshore wind terminal

20 March 2025

The project to build an offshore wind terminal at the Port of Cuxhaven, will enhance Cuxhaven's role as a key offshore industrial hub, supporting heavy-duty handling for offshore wind farm components.

Operated by Niedersachsen Ports (NPorts), the expanded terminal will include 3-5 berths, a 1,250-metre heavy-load quay wall, and a 38-hectare storage area. In a consortium with German firms Depenbrock and TAGU, DEME will conduct dredging and land reclamation, reclaiming over 3 million m³ of land using advanced dredging equipment.

The project involves complex engineering solutions, such as combi-wall installations and land reclamation in a dynamic estuarine environment, meeting demanding geotechnical conditions. DEME has prior experience in Cuxhaven, having completed neighboring berths 8 and 4 and supported the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project. It is set to begin in early 2025, the 3.5-year project will bolster Germany’s energy transition goals and offshore wind expansion in the North Sea region.
