PORTOS Project: researchers testing novel technology to harvest solar resources of the marine environment
15 May 2023
The PORTOS project aims to assess, develop and
promote the integrated use of renewable energy resources in Atlantic ports and
to increase their energy efficiency, thus providing a roadmap for a more
competitive and sustainable sector. It is supported by the Interreg Atlantic
programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The main innovation of the PORTOS project is
the holistic integration of marine renewables in ports, combining them with
traditional renewables to achieve a balanced and diversified energy mix based
on the characteristics of each individual port.
As part of the PORTOS project, researchers from
universities in Portugal and Spain have teamed up to test a new technology for
harvesting solar resources from the marine environment.
Scientists say the
results of the test campaign are very promising.
