Rotterdam Port Authority offers green hydrogen site
14 May 2023
Rotterdam Port Authority is developing an 11-hectare (ha) site on Maasvlakte that will be suitable for a green hydrogen plant producing up to 1 GW. According to the port authority, the reason for the development of the site is the tender for the IJmuiden Ver wind farm later this year. The farm is expected to have a capacity of 2 GW and is expected to be completed in 2028. The site is conveniently located close to the Evides water pipeline. The port authority is also investigating the possibility of connecting the Maasvlakte hydrogen plants to regional heat networks. This will eventually allow them to use 'green' heat to heat homes, greenhouses and offices.
