Shunt trains in the Bremerhaven now running solely on Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO)

29 March 2023

Bremerhaven has been able to cut ‘last mile’ emissions using Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) instead of diesel for the shunt trains being used in the port. This makes the last mile transport much cleaner. This transition has been made possible by a project called “Climate and emission protection on the last mile in rail freight transport”. According to the railway operators, the use of HVO reduces greenhouse gas emissions by around 90% per year.
