Solar power project at Portsmouth International Port

23 September 2022

Portsmouth International Port is the first UK port to have solar canopies. On top of reducing the port’s carbon footprint, it keeps cars waiting to board ferries cooler for longer. The solar and battery system installed at the port now counts a total of 2660 solar panels. The energy production contributes to around 35% of the site’s power needs. Moreover, the new battery (1.5 MWh capacity) stores the green power and will enable, in the near future, a 98% solar and battery-sourced electricity consumption by the port in peak conditions.
