The Port of Aberdeen began construction of an onshore power supply (OPS) system
07 October 2024
The 'Shore Power in Operation' project at the Port of Aberdeen aims to provide clean electricity to vessels at seven berths, with power expected by March 2025. This initiative is among the first of its kind in the UK, aiming to achieve net zero by 2040.
This system will allow berthed vessels at Albert Quay and Mearns Quay in the port’s North Harbour to draw electricity from the grid, which will reduce carbon emissions by over 80% and will also contribute to cutting noise and harmful pollutants.
