North Sea Port: Working to boost renewable energy infrastructure

06 May 2021

North Sea Port is working with its partners in the ports to build up its renewable energy capacity and ensure the greenest mix of energy possible coming from the port. Recently, North Sea Port has invested in creating a strong offshore field in Vlissingen with 50 wind farms currently operating. A further 100 wind turbines are in operation across the port area, jointly generating 280 megawatts each year, equivalent to the power needed to provide 180,000 households with a year’s worth of power.

The renewable energy mix also relies heavily on solar power. North Sea Port has installed solar panels and parks at Zonneburg in Ghent and at the Scaldia solar park in Vlissingen and Terneuzen, to generate a total of 110 megawatts of power, equal to the annual consumption of 28,000 households.
